Hi there, it's my first post here but I'm visiting this forum frequently.

I applied through Canadian Experience Class last year and I received my MR request from CIC lately. I would like to go for a holidays (in Canada) that I planned with my girlfriend long time ago. Before I will do that I will have to quit my job and I'm certain that my employer will send a letter to Service Canada and cancel my LMO. My questions are:

1) If they will cancel my LMO can I legally stay in Canada?
2) Is this going to affect my application for PR ? I'm planning to give my resignation letter (month notice) to my employer right after my medicals are done?
3) After obtaining COPR do I have to go to the border to do the landing (I'm from visa exampt country)?

Thanks for any suggestion and help!

1) I am not an expert on LMOs, so cann't help you with that. But you may become out of status.
2) CEC program does not reuqire your current status. They only check the status for the job experience period you claimed.
3) Yes you will have to go to Border (or make an appointment in local office) to 'activate' your PR.

1) You can legally stay in Canada as long as your work permit is valid.

you can stay in Canada as long as your wp still valid (your employer can cancel LMO but not your wp)
2) Is this going to affect my application for PR ? I'm planning to give my resignation letter (month notice) to my employer right after my medicals are done?
NO

You can go to the border or make an appointment at your local service canada office
Thanks for any suggestion and help!

of course you can go on holidays. Why not?

Work permit is employer dependent and it becomes invalid once you quit the job. You will be out of status between the time you quit the job and get your landing done.

No, this isn't true. The work permit allows you to remain in the country until it expires. But of course you cannot work for a different employer until you get a new work permit.

The LMO doesn't matter. It only authorizes your employer to hire a foreign worker. It is not your immigration document, your work permit is.

I'm confused now :/
what is your confusion?
LMO=authorization for your employer to hire
Wp=Your authorization to work and/stay at canada
a wp closed to an employer allows you to work only for that employer, but if you loose that job even by quit or being fired, it allows you to stay on Canada until the end of the validity of the wp, and your employer can do nothing to get you deported
Also CEC is based on your work experience until the date of the application, what happen latter is not relevant

If you quit or lose your job while on work permit you can stay legally in Canada until the end of your work permit or temporary visa period.
BUT it is a risk to leave Canada when you have no job because the immigration officer may refuse your re-entry.

There should be no effect on CEC application if you already acquired the sufficient Canadian work experience anyway.

Thanks shuki for the answer. I'm not planning to leave Canada as we (me and my girlfriend) want to see east part of Canada. Beside that I'm almost done with my application I have just medicals to do and since I'm from visa exempt country it shouldn't take much from there - but u never know. I was just concerned with that LMO cancellation thing.
