I plan to land in May from United States on road and import vehicle at the same time.
I want to buy 2016 GMC Terrain to drive and import but I do have several concerns as the below requirements from Transport Canada.
1. Metric speedometer, it doesn't support switching between US and Metric, however the maximum number for
Metric is only 140 km/h, not sure if that's enough for inspection in Canada.
2. If the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle is less than 10,000 lbs., and the manufacture date is after September 1, 2007, it must be equipped with an electronic immobilizer system that meets Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114.
I don't know how to check if a vehicle meets this requirement.
3. Daytime running lights, it has daytime running lights but not sure if it meets the Canadian standard.
4. Vehicles that have been customized or undergone further manufacturing are considered inadmissible because they are no longer considered certified by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
Further certification for the final product must be obtained and validated to allow its importation.
I also don't know how to determine if it has been customized or undergone further manufacturing I have carfax report which doesn't have any of that information, not sure if that's enough.
