All,
My COPR has expired as I was not able to make it to Canada before it expired. Thank you Corona. Thankfully there was a notice from IRCC that PR applicants whose COPR has expired during the pandemic can use the web form to let Canadian authorities know when they are able to travel again.
I just did that. I used it to convey my ability to travel again and requested them to re-open/re-process my application.
Attempt 1: I got a response within 5 days saying my web form request did not contain all the necessary details about my PR. It asked me to re-submit.
Attempt 2: I gave ALL the details: my COPR validity dates, application numbers, passport details etc. My first line started with saying my COPR has expired and requested them to re-process my application. The response I received was:
"This is in reference to your application for permanent residence in Canada.
We have received your request to extend the duration within which you can confirm your status as a permanent resident. Please be assured that your application will not be refused if you are unable or unwilling to travel as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
If the situation is resolved and you are able to travel within the existing validity of your documents, you may do so. Otherwise, once you and your family members are able to travel, please notify us through the IRCC Web form. At that time, IRCC will respond with the most up to date information we have on next steps."
I did not know what to do with that response because what they asked me to do in their response was what I did in the first place - I notified them using the web form and asked them for next steps.
Attempt 3: I raised another request after waiting for a week (just to see if they send me another update). I conveyed in my first line that my COPR has expired, and I need them to tell me the next steps on how to re-process my application. Their response was:
"Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
We verified the information you provided and it appears that an IRCC agent already responded to your enquiry on May 28, 2020.
If the answer you received does not answer your initial question, we invite you to write to us using the IRCC Web form."
Did any other group members face a similar situation? Any ideas on how to resolve this?
