Hey everyone! This is my first post here.

I am a Canadian Citizen living in America with an american residence and will be moving back to Canada early 2017. My question is that I want to know if I can apply for Canadian Residency for my wife from here? Since I have not loved in Canada since 2010 how can I do this from the USA? We would be moving in with my parents in the meantime so that would be how we would not depend on the government. Any help would be much appreciated!

yes, as a canadian citizen you can apply to sponsor your spouse while living in another country. you would be sponsoring a spouse outside of canada. cic will want to see proof of your intentions to settle in canada immediately upon approval, so providing letters of support from your family about your plans is recommended. many people apply like this and assuming there are no other issues, it's pretty straight forward. right now US applicants are getting approved in 3-5 months total and are processed in ottawa. Whether that is true for US residents is not completely clear. it may take a bit longer depending on the applicant's country of citizenship.
