Hello experts,

I have a situation here wherein PR cards for self and family expire on 17.03.2013. During this period i have entered Canada only twice, once in 2008 (with family during Landing) and then in 2010 (without family). I was stuck with issue of having to arrange for a responsible person to care for my widowed mother in Pakistan as she was on my sponsorship in Dubai after my dad expired in Dubai.

Now that i have arranged with my elder sister to take care of her in my absence as i intend to finally move to Canada ( i know its too late). What are the problems i could face at the POE and what are the typical questions asked and what could be the probable answers?.

Also, i would like to highlight the fact that my 4th child was born outside of Canada and was not part of the PR issued for self and rest of my family. I am planning to migrate alone so that i could get a job and then call them over. What are my chances and how could i go about it as PR cards of rest of my family would have expired by then.

Many thanks....

I can't answer your question but try a search in the white box top right on the main forum page. I put in "PR expiry" and found lots of previous comments. Perhaps that will give you the responses you are looking for. I hope so. All the best.

When you enter Canada, you will either have no issues entering the country - or immigration may report you for failing to meet the residency requirement. If you are reported, you will still be allowed to enter the country. However you will have to appear in front of a judge to argue why you should be allowed to keep your PR status.

If you are able to enter Canada without being reported, you must remain in Canada without leaving for even one day until you meet the residency requirement. For you this effectively means that you will have to remain in Canada for 730 days straight. Once you meet the residency requirement you can apply to renew your PR card.

Your family should come to Canada before their PR cards expire and try applying for a TRV for your youngest child so that your youngest child can come as well.

If your youngest child is not granted a TRV, then you can try applying for a TRP. If this is refused as well then you will have to sponsor your child from Canada. Note that you won't be able to sponsor your child until you meet the residency requirement (i.e. you will have to wait approximately two years before filing the application). If the rest of your family fails to return to Canada before their PR cards expire, they can try applying for Travel Documents to try to return to Canada. However it's very likely these will be refused because they have lived in Canada so few days since becoming PRs. If the rest of your family loses their PR status, you can sponsor them. However once again, you won't be able to sponsor them until you meet residency requirements.
