Those that have applied for passport, how did you go about getting a guarantor and references ? Its there a different methods to get this done, I am just going through cic website trying to finds the best way to get it done
Ask people you know. Ask friends. Ask family. Be clear what is needed (i.e. who can do what).
If that's harder, ask people you know in professional or service capacities. You can ask your lawyer, accountant, priest, imam, yoga teacher, doctor, dentist, bank manager, financial advisor, dry cleaner, teacher, kids' teacher, etc. Ask your colleagues or boss.
I believe it's fair to say that it is NOT considered rude or weird to do this. (Personally I think it'd be an honour). You are NOT imposing on anyone, as long as you're not asking them to lie. It is of course polite to say that you do not wish to impose or make them uncomfortable and they can refuse, you won't be offended.
And the other key point: both references and guarantors for passport are NOT being asked to 'guarantee' you financially, or morally, or reputation, or legally, or anything. They are not taking on any risk.
They only have to tell the truth (look at the text): that they know you and have known you for [time period.] That's it. No risk, except that they probably will be contacted by government to confirm they know you etc.
