So here is my situation: I am born of two Canadian parents in the United States, and know that I am eligible for dual citizenship. I'm wondering how long it takes for the Canadian Citizenship Certificate to be processed if I have proof that I am moving there. I've talked to people who say that if you include in your application a lease with your name on it, or a copy of a job offer, it will expedite the process. Does anyone know how much faster that would make it? My problem is that if I get my name on a lease (and they're usually for a year!), and it takes longer than 6 months, I'm worried that I wouldn't be allowed in the country legally, because I don't have my documentation. On top of that, I won't legally be allowed to work. Any advice? Thank you!

Talk to the Canadian embassy where you are about this. It can take 10 - 12 months to get your citizenship certificate but the sooner you apply, the sooner you'll get it of course. I don't know if they can offer you any other solutions in the meantime.

I got my kids Certificates in 2 weeks. They however, are 3 years old.

What I Did though was request it expedited and had my husband (their Canadian father) sign a note indicating that my PR was in process and we are intending to move there in October or November of 2010 and for their healthcare (we are headed to ONtario) expediting would be beneficial.

I don't think this is a guarantee, but might not hurt just to try and ask.
