We usually hear that to get a job in Canada you gotta have Canadian experience. How many months or years do employers usually require?

Depends on various factors, the type of job u r looking / applying for, the strata of the job etc. etc.

However, it is a good idea to start working [on any occupation] asap. That shall commence your Canadian Experience. Till junior management level most employers will only look for some Canadian exposure, not necessarily [completely] in the field applied for. Except for maybe, technical occupations.

Usually, till 12 months [on job] we cannot expect to land a job that meets our satisfaction level. And from 6 months of gaining some Canadian exposure, the employers shall start acknowledging our general experience.

We will need at least 1yr experience in our current field to compete for a better position in that field. That makes it anything from 2-3 yrs Canadian Experience onwards... Looks grim? No. The sooner we start working... Start building some sort of Credit History... Be sincere in whatever we do... keep a +ve & happy outlook... before we know, things will start looking brighter.

There's a magic in that... & we are determined to succeed in Canada, aren't we? We will !!!

Hi Qorax.. great input..I have question for you.. I also asked this in different posting but I'd like to get your opinion.
Do you think or do you know if Canadian company will recognize the experience working with Canadian Company obtained in USA? Also with the Masters degree (MS, MBA) attained in USA?
Would it be easier to get into Canadian job market if one has those experience in USA?

Erik,

I was writing some more on it, by then u had posted. Sorry for an incomplete posting, Bro.

On your query, plz note that it is always good to have some Canadian expo, even out of Canada. That 'increases' your chances, absolutely. More than the US degree, that u worked for a Canadian employer shall definitely help.

However, many other factors also matter in our job foray, whether in Canada or elsewhere over the entire Globe... the issues pretty much remain the same, if u know what I mean.

BTW: How much that overseas Canadian exposure shall take u along is not foreseeable, But it will help a lot, that's for sure.

any type of Canadian experience, short or long or even a unpaid training can be helpful. you have to do volunteer work for experiences...

Thank you so much, that is sounds encouraging...we all are so stressed out thinking about this Canadian experience...and the chance of getting job there. It is surprising me that even many american born immigrants who try to get job in Canada have been experiencing some difficulty without canadian experience... thsnks agin for your input
