Hello Friends,
I hold a Masters in Engg Science -M.S- research based degree from The University of Western Ontario. Must I take IELTS or is it worth giving a try without it? Did anyone have a similar experience getting approved without IELTS by virtue of a Canadian post sec engg/professional degree?
Kindly help me with this. Thanks a lot in advance.

If you read the instructions, they are quite clear that it's not recommended to apply without IELTS unless you are a native English speaker. If you want to take the chance on it, it's up to you but this leaves the door open for the IO to give you zero points for English or ask for IELTS. If they would always ask for IELTS, that's one thing, you can say ok, you can take it later if they ask, but sometimes they don't ask.

for your information, here in usa, when i went to take the IELTS, i saw white people also taking the test for the purpose of emigrating to canada. yes, white. don't know if they are americans or east europeans or what - but they speak fluent english and they are taking the test!

LOL...maoist...why you think that white people are supposed to know English better than you???
Its 2009, buddy! The color of the skin does not say anything about knowledge of a particular language, level of education or gives any other meaningful information :).

Raman-Ram, take the IELTS. Its well worth the $265 and some preparation time to be confident they dont give you 0 for language proficiency.

barabashka -- well at least it is easier for white people to claim they are native-speakers of the language. it is not me who think this way. it is cic.

if u r born in india and you are not white, try telling cic you are a native speaker of the english or french language.

If you have at least 5 years of full time education in USA, UK, Aus, Canada, South Africa, NZ (with the medium of instruction as English); and if you got proof, IELTS is not required.

If not, IELTS is required.

Even if you studied in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE and other countries in English medium, it will not be considered.

IELTS is not required ONLY if English is your native language
