Hello everyone,

I need some advice regarding citizenship. My parents are considering becoming citizens of a country that doesn't allow dual citizenship. They're thinking about renouncing their Canadian citizenship for this reason.

Can they switch directly from Canadian citizenship to permanent residency in Canada once they renounce their citizenship, or would they have to start the entire permanent residency process from scratch (including living in Canada for five years to qualify for PR)?

How would they get PR? They need to be invited through Express Entry or PNP, and then apply for PR. Then live in Canada to meet residency obligations.

They would need to start the PR process from scratch. No, they cannot switch directly from citizenship to PR.

There is no requirement to live in Canada for five years to become a PR. You are confusing PR and citizenship rules.
