Hello, I am a Canadian citizen who has a fiancé in the states. She has her green card, but she is 2 months pregnant and we want the child to be born in Canada. We are having our civil wedding in August. I am stressing out about how health care will work for her, or if it'll even work... Are there any other options for us? Is it possible to get other private health insurance and will it cover pregnancy?

If she is already pregnant, it's too late to get private insurance to cover the costs of her birth (private coverage can only be obtained if you got the coverage before she became pregnant). You will most likely have to pay for all costs related to the birth out of pocket. You can reduce the costs of the birth through having the baby at home with the assistance of a midwife. Which province do you live in?

Well she does and had health insurance in states before her pregnancy. Maybe i she just has to call her insurance and figure out if they would cover out of the country. I doubt it, but its worth a shot.

Typically this kind of insurance doesn't cover out of country medical expenses. But by all means give them a call - you may get lucky.

However. After we have our civil wedding, I can then fill out her residence papers and maybe just maybe she will get her health insurance before the pregnancy. Who knows?

She won't get residency before the baby is born.

As for whether getting married and submitting the residency papers will get her health insurance, this is influenced by how you apply for PR and which province you are residing in. I had previously asked where you are living (which province). If you can provide this information - we can be of more help.

So i called Alberta health(my province) they told me that she will be added onto my insurance after our civil wedding when I go to an Alberta health registry with our marriage certificate. Plus I will also have to get her a visiting permit. She also said if that does not work, she can get travellers insurance which would cover her doctor visits and after the baby is born, the baby goes under my insurance also. But I'm not sure if the baby goes under my insurance does that mean I do not have to pay for the delivery?

I might be wrong, but I think for Alberta you can avail right away of healthcare without any cost to you, unlike BC you need to have a 3 month wait. The delivery part doesn't count as baby's care needs, so I guess you have to cover the cost for that.
