Trying to figure out time lines, I’m a Canadian citizen and my husband is an American citizen. We’re biting at the bit to get the application submitted since it will be through Outland and we miss each other horribly!
Question is, I have full intentions of changing my name to my husbands name now that we are married. We are newly married so it still hasn’t happened. Is it fine to submit our application with my maiden name and then update my passport later on? Will it also cause any question if I haven’t updated my name to reflect his last name before our application? If I can update it after, do I need to do anything to inform anyone?
Thank you so much for the help in advance!

hi! i did this! i submitted using my maiden name, waited for my passport to expire, then updated that, my license and my health card and then just let CIC know with a copy of my passport. No quesitons asked!

He can visit you and spend the time waiting for the outland application to be processed in Canada (provided he can job wise and all that).

You can update them at a later time. Any big changes must be reported to them (such as name changes, new documents, children being born, and the like). They are contacted through the web form.

No questions regarding no name change before the app as you're both westerners and it's not a big cultural must for the woman to take the man's name.
