Hi!
My mother is a canadian citizen, 66 year old, living alone in Canada. I, her only child is already married and overage for a petition application. We both wishes to be reunited in Canada.

Is there any chances for us to be reunited there?

Please help us!

Thank you!

Are you her biological child? Was she a Canadian citizen when you were born?

If she is alone in Canada, no close relatives, no husband etc. and she has no husband, parents alive or any other relatives she can sponsor in another country, she can sponsor you under family class as "another relative" even though you are over the age of dependent child. You can see this at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/relatives-apply-who.asp#who_can

There is another possibility for her to sponsor you which is through the provincial nominee program where she lives but only if she lives in AB, SK or MB.

Yes, i am her biological child and no, she's not yet a canadian citizen when she gave birth to me.

She can sponsor you like leon said but only you can sponsor your spouse once you recieve your PR.

hello again.... I've read something that i think is complicated... Could you please explain this to me....

Note: you can sponsor one relative regardless of age or relationship only if you do not have a living spouse or common-law partner, conjugal partner, a son or daughter, parent, grandparent, sibling, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece who could be sponsored as a member of the family class, and you do not have any relative who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or registered as an Indian under the Indian Act.

Who cannot be sponsored
Other relatives, such as brothers and sisters over 18, or adult independent children cannot be sponsored. However, if they apply to immigrate under the Skilled Worker Class, they may get extra points for adaptability for having a relative in Canada.

Thank you!

Brothers, sisters and adult children can usually not be sponsored but there is an exception made if the sponsor has no spouse or close relatives in Canada and no close relatives elsewhere that they could sponsor. They can then sponsor another relative of their choice.

Thanks again!......... Is my mom sister/brother in-law can be consider as her close relative?

Yes, her sister is considered a close relative so if she has a sister who is a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen, she can not sponsor another relative under this clause. In that case, she can only sponsor you under a PNP family stream if she is living in AB, MB or SK or she and her sister could try to help you or your husband to get a job offer so you could immigrate under a PNP in another province with employer support.

thank you for your response.... my father's sisters/brothers are considered as my mom's sisters/brothers also? Is that what you mean? even though they are not blood related? they are just her in-laws, can they be considered as my mom's close relative?

sorry for so many questions.... i am just trying to clear things!

I think Leon (like I did) read your post above as your mom has a sister (definitely a close relative) and a brother-in-law, not has a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law. So possibly, these relatives will not disqualify your mother from pursuing the exception, since they are not technically her blood relatives.

I look forward to hearing his response, as I do not have any knowledge of this but have been reading your thread and hoping for you to find a way to be with your mother. Best wishes. Allison

If they are a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, they are not her relatives so they do not count.

I was SO hoping Leon would say that. Good luck with your application! Allison
