I am on a Work Permit and planning to apply for PR. My wife and I have a child born in Canada. I am just wondering if I need to enter his details in the IMM 0008 application form as my dependent in addition to my wife. If yes, there is a mandatory question that asks for date and place of last entry to Canada under dependant's section, I am thinking of using his date and place of birth.

Please let me know your suggestions.

Thanks!

You should NOT add your child born in Canada in IMM 0008 application. You can add an explanation along with your application stating that your child is a Canadian citizen and attach his birth certificate / passport.

Thanks bhiwani. My lawyer says that I need to include my child (Canadian citizen) as dependant in the IMM 0008 form. Let me check with him again.

Hi,
I was in the same situation.

You do not need to include your Canadian citizen child in IMM008. However, you must include him in the Family Composition form (IMM 5406).

It clearly says in the IMM 008 form " you must include your spouse or common law partner and dependent children of yours and your spouse or common law partner's, WHO ARE NOT ALREADY PERMANENT RESIDENTS OR CITIZENS OF CANADA "

You must include your child birth certificate, passport (if possible) photocopy in the application supporting documents.

In a cover letter you can also mention you have a child who is already a canadian citizen and thus not included in this application.

Seriously, you better get another lawyer if that's what he/she told you.

***if you are confident enough with this lawyer you don't even have to double check his/her advice here***if you are not comfortable with his/her services and they are charging you sky high "professional consultant fee" why don't you just DIY...***

s_w_u - Thanks, I am seriously considering that now.

THIS IS VERY USEFUL ONE , Thanks a ton !!!

I am applying for CEC PR and just had a baby on 15th Aug (Indepence Day for us :)

So, I must include a cover letter stating abut my son already being a Canadian Citizen by birth.

One thing may be I would like to understand clearly.... Is passport copy for my Canadian child Mandatory ? Will only Canadian Birth Certificate suffice ?
In case Canadian Passport is required, i would really get it done it on premium services else I would go with Standard services.

Thanks again !!!

A copy of the birth certificate with an amended IMM 5406 is all you need to send.

One more thing to confirm, I don;t need to include Candadian born baby name / fees in the fees payment form, right ?

thanks!

I am in the same situation and already got my PR

as far as I know, you dont need to provide them with any documents for your child born in Canada, they only need the document of the applicants inluded in your application form.

What is the baby is born after the PR application being submitted ? How do we add the child's details to the application ?

Assuming your baby is born in Canada you don't need to add him on your file. But inform the CIC as soon as u get baby's birth certificate ( long form preferred). Send them a email informing abt the baby attached the birth certificate copy and the updated family form. That's it.

Kinda starting up this old thread again, (admin: hope thats ok)

I have just sent applications for my children's Canadian Citizenship Certificates (their father is a Canadian Citizen)

Now I will be sending off my IMM 0008.

I am wondering if i leave them off my application, simply state their CC has been applied for in a cover letter and be sure to include them in the IMM 5406?

Hi,

I have a question related to same topic. I got my passport back yesterday with PR approved but it says that name of all my family members should be on the letter which they sent along with the passport. My daughter was born in Canada and does not have her name on the form. Do I need to get her name added or can I just do flagpoling ? I have already sent copy of her passport some time back to CIC.

Thanks.
