I am Canadian, my fiancee is American (we haven't yet sorted out which of our home countries we will marry in) but we will be living in Europe. I cannot find any information on whether there are visas or some other form of registering our marriage with our home countries. Do we just travel with our marriage license or is there a visa/permit/etc to make traveling back to Canada and the US smoother? (I'm particularly concerned about being hassled at the US border when we visit her parents.)
Thanks in advance...

You're both visa exempt to each others home country. There isn't any special visa to travel to us or Canada for either of you.

There is no special status, visa, permit etc in immigration for spouses of Canadians or Americans. It is no easier to get into the US or Canada even if you show a marriage certificate, vs entering as single, dating or engaged.

Though in general it's usually pretty easy for Canadians and Americans to visit each others country whenever they want.

Thanks folks.
One other question - do I required a K1 to marry in the US (as a Canadian) if I do not intend to stay/reside in the US?

The rules surrounding marriages vary from state to state, I think in majority there are no residence requirements.

No you only require a visa if you are not from a visa exempt country. You are Canadian and do not require a visa to go to the US to marry.

As a Canadian who got married in America to an American and is not going to live there, no. You do not need a K1. Just make sure you check the specific marriage licence requirements for the city you are marrying in. Some cities have different requirements than the state itself. Found that one out the hard way! :)

Just out of curiosity, on what basis are you going to be "living in Europe"?

How are you immigrating to Europe?
