This survey takes about 30 minutes to do and it's a great way to get your input on the immigration.

here is the link

http://cic.sondages-surveys.ca/s/immigration2/?l=eng

Call me skeptical, but can I ask where you got the link from? I'm not about to start that unless the real cic site has the link to it.

If you look at the top of this site it says "News" in this box several things is flashing by one is "Latest Canadian immigration news" click on this and at the top of the next page it says "Canada wants your input regarding immigration" and yes it is an official site just like the one your on now which is how I found it. I hope that answered your questions. Thanks :)

This is not an "Official Immigration" website...this is a forum, and website run by immigration lawyers....

Ok I found it and I don't trust it:

"The questionnaire will be available on the CIC website until the fall of 2011 or winter 2012 and can be found at the CIC website."

But that link is NOT on the CIC website. It's hosted and run by sondages-surveys.ca

In fact, the entire "site" for that survey is set up to look like an official site but all the links are to pages on their own site and redirect. Very scammy. I wonder if CIC would approve of the use of their image.

Please look the site up before saying it's not an official site, at the top of the page you will see the web address www.cic.gc.ca are you from Canada?? All our govt sites have this at the top of their page and also the David Cohen site was found on the site where I check for the status of my husbands application daily and NO Govt of ours would allow a site that is not ok"d by them.

It's official. I just finished taking it and it IS the cic website with the cic banner across the top of all pages though I am quite sure they outsourced the survey data collection to another company.

One caution though if you take it. There are several questions were you are asked to rank the importance of something using 1-6, 1 being most important to 6 least important. Then they ask a question were it is switched and 1 is least important and 6 is most important. Definitely a design flaw there!

Also, it does take time to read the backgrounder and 45 minutes to take the survey. There is a LOT of reading so chose a quiet time without distractions. There is a save and come back to later option, but I didn't try it.

More digging and while I would not trust a survey linked from here (this forum or the owner's blog), I did find it on the CIC website.

louisa, if it were that simple, people wouldn't get scammed.

There are thousands of websites out there that fake government websites, including Canada's. Canada doesn't have the resourses to find them all and take them down.

Better to be safe than sorry.

I just want to point out - even though this site is legit, I could take the images (including that banner) from the CIC site and in 15 minutes create a new scam website that looks identical to CICs. I'm a web developer (and an honest one, so I would not do this, my point is, faking official sites is VERY easy).

True, awor, but, while making the site look similar with the banner and the web address might be quite easy, authoring a study that extensive would take both time and deep knowledge of immigration issues to fool the likes of us savvy to immigration issues... 8)

I wasn't going to get far enough into the site to determine it looked real without a good source lol

I'm very (insanely, even) cautious where I go online, I like my money to stay in my accounts ;)

Honestly if you are that nervous of sites I am wandering what you are doing on this blog? And I posted this with good intentions every single one of us on here are frustrated with the long wait to be with our family members and if any input helps the immigration make better decisions for people in the future I am all for it.

If you feel it's unsafe that's ok you have the right to refuse not to participate.

This is a forum, not a blog. Your intentions are fine louisa, I'm not personally attacking you for heaven's sake!

The likelihood of malware on this site is small, given that it's own by lawyers. When I'm presented with a website that has "official" looking headers - but that is NOT on the official site - I am careful. So should everyone else be.

I'm glad they're doing a survey, I hope it helps speed things up.
