Canada Visitor Visa

I applied for Canadian visitor visa online and sent my passport to LA Consulate on April 14th. I now understand that I should have sent it to the Visa Application Center (VAC) instead. I am waiting for my passport to be returned. Can anyone provide more info on this. I am feeling nervous about not being able to trace my passports.
