Once you arrive in Canada with a PR visa, you will be a permanent resident. Permanent residents have to stay in Canada for two years out of every five to remain a PR. You can apply to be a Canadian citizen once you have been in Canada for three years.
From the CIC website:
"To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) out of the four years (1,460 days) preceding your application. Please note that you cannot meet the residence requirements for citizenship without a minimum of two (2) years as a permanent resident."
Once you are a citizen you can get a Canadian passport.
