Hi All,
I am already in Canada and I already have my work permit and visa printed in my passport. I arrived Canada a month ago and my work visa is valid for 1 year. I did not like the job I am doing for my employer. Therefore, I am wondering what will be my status if I quit the job? can I still stay in Canada? even though my work permit is only allowing me to work for that particular employer.
Does my employer have the right to cancel my work visa/permit and ask my to leave the country?
Thanks,

You'll find information about your rights as a foreign worker on that website:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/resources/publications/tfw-rights.asp

Quote:

Your employer:

must pay you for your work (including overtime, where required);
must make sure that your workplace is safe;
must give you proper break time and days off;
cannot force you to perform duties for which you were not hired or trained;
cannot take your passport or work permit away from you; and
cannot threaten to have you deported from Canada or to change your immigration status.

Your employer cannot cancel your work permit/visa and cannot ask you to leave the country. You are legally allowed to live in Canada till the validity of your WP/TRV.
