Hello.
My boyfriend and I have lived together in Canada since mid June last year and been
In a relationship since August 2010! We are planning to apply for my pr application
The day we've lived together for a 12 month period.

My question is: I'm on a work visa which expires in the eginning of next year - can he still sponsor me?

Yes absolutely !

Oh that's so relieving to hear! Thank you

Do you have any good suggestions for gatherings of proof? :-)

Being on this forum is a very good start, there is mountains of information and support here. Try and find the thread for the country you are applying from, since each VO is a bit different in thier process and it will also allow you to chat with people in the same situation. Gathering documents can be time consuming and costly so start right away, make sure you have the basics to prove your relationship such as photos, rental agreements, joint bank accounts, letters from family and friends, anything you can think of that ties the two of you together, it can be simple things like birthday cards or other items that you have given eachother, there is a good thread on here somewhere about more unsual items that people sent, I will see if I can find it, there is also another great thread about putting together a package. We added in our skype history, facebook relationship page, pictures my fiance drew of my daughter, cards that she made for him, life insurance, shared health insurance. Anyhow I will try and find those other threads for you and post :) Mostly stay positive, its a loooong process !

Here is the link for the thread on putting together the package :)

Thank you ever so much!
I believe we're applying at the London one which is pretty quick I believe.
We have only just signed our rental lease for our condo, I ave gathered pictures, air tickets and mail being sent to where we lived. Speaking of that we've lived the last 11 months at my boyfriends moms house so shall we just get her to state that we lived at hers?

Once again thank you, I'm so excited to start the process. And are you sure I can still apply while I'm here in Canada on a work visa? :)

Yes, I would get a notorized letter from his mom that you have been living there, and yes i am sure that you can apply :) However if you apply while you are here you will be applying inbound which takes longer, you should also apply to have your work permit extended so you can continue to work during the process. If you return to UK and do outbound it will be much quicker but you will have to be apart. I have an employee here who is on a work permit and applying inbound so thats how i know its possible :)

Go to the CIC website and research both inbound and outbound to see what would work better for you

Ow okay, Im pretty sure i saw somewhere that you just have to have a legal physical address in your home country (I'm from denmark) and just mail it to London! I definitely would rather be with him here! :) my work visa expires 9 months so I guess we still had plenty of time :)

No, you have to be physically in your own country to apply outbound. apply for an extension soon though, processing time is approx. 3 months, better to be safe then sorry. If your visa runs out while you are doing the sponsorhsip process you will have implied status until your next visa is recieved but you will be unable to work. But again, check out the CIC for inbound and see what your options, i am not as familiar as we are doing an outbound application, so I am here in Canada and my fiance is waiting it out in Mexico. I agree, had we had a choice to do inbound I would have rather done that and supported him during the process time then have to be apart for this long. But also keep in mind that inland can take 11 months just for the first stage, then you still have to wait anywhere from 6 months to a year after that before getting full approval.

you know what, dont quote me, maybe you can apply outland while you are still here .... but not sure

Outland first stage right now is 89 days. Inland first stage is 11 months. You can apply for outland while being in the country. Also you have to apply for your extension 30 days before it expires :)

Its a international experience Canada visa I have.. Now I had some trouble before obtaining that coming in as a visitor, only got 30 days and nearly being sent back for visiting him too much - would hat have any affect on it? But my visa doesn't end before February 2013! So how many months in total (roughly) would the Outland process take? :)
