your lease probably has a clause that you either have to ask if you can have longterm visitors or that you can’t have longterm visitors.

This has nothign to do with law. It is just between you and the landlord. If the lease agreement allows it, then they can live with you, otherwise not. Read the agreement. Most likely it will not be allowed. Some landlords choose to not enforce this clause.
