Can TRV (stamped in passport) be extended or restored from inside Canada?

My mother's TRV (stamped in her passport) expires on February 9th 2017. She is planning to come to Canada during Winter and stay till end of February. We are thinking of putting in an online application to CIC. The question is whether I should put in an application for extension of TRV or restoration of TRV?

P.S Thank you in advance for any help. I just want to point out that this is not regarding the 6 month "stay period" extension. This is regarding getting a new stamp on the passport with a new validity.

once in canada she can file for extension

Extension of the TRV stamp right and not the 6 month stay. Also will they request the passport here in Canada or she has to go back home and submit passport there before she comes to Canada again

There is no such thing as "extension of TRV" nor "restoration of TRV". When TRVs expire you need to apply for a new one. Only students and workers are eligible to apply for new TRVs inland.
