They do, I received one full blow RQ (CIT 0171) after admitting that I've made an error in the residency calculator.
I have 1090.5 days of physical presence instead of 1095 (1134 days of total residency).
The interviewer was sad for me but she had to give it to me

They absolutely can. Although looks like the more common course of action, if more clarification is needed, is the issue of the CIT520, which is a way more specific and smaller request for documents and usually is processes way faster.
