Can the applicant travel?

If the person(husband or wife) you are sponsoring wants to travel to visit family for maybe 5 months is this ok? For example, my husband is a tunisian citizen, but lives and has residency in italy. I have written this in our application. But if my husband decides to go to Tunisia for 5 months or more, is he allowed as long as I let them know? or does he need to stay in one place while the application is being processed? (our application is currently being sent to the visa office for further processing)

He may travel. Just be aware that if an interview is required, they will expect to conduct it the VO you get assigned.
