Hi,
when i have filed my tax returns, i have mentioned my marital status as married. Now i am going to apply for PR under CEC with the status legally seperated. i am wondering if CIC gets any information from CRA. are they 2 different departments?. CIC does it get information from anywhere other than the documents we are submitting.

Both are different department and not share information without your consent.

So most of the information they would obtain regarding your taxes would be from your submitted T4 & NOA. Sometimes CIC only ask for last qualifying year of T4 & NOA. The control is in your hand. If it happens that they don't request for the current one, then they won't have that information...

Hi:

Both are different dept and it may not be an issue. But I am wondering why can't you update CRA regarding your separation. Do you want to hide this to get some tax benefit? If so, don't do that. It is so unfair to the good canadian govt.

Regards

We are here to give you information all in good faith. So I hope no negative activity involved here...

I will not get any tax benifits as they have never been to canada. in last 2 years i didnt get any benfit. Recenltly i found that i can apply for PR with the status legally seperated. i dont have any document proves that we are seperated. i am just trying.

I am not an expert on this so if someone with more experience can help us more. Any status that you filed under CEC application should have the supporting documents. If you put "Legally Separated", I believe you need to prove to CIC, that your spouse and dependents haven't been staying with you for how many years.

we are not living together since 4 years. i had the hope that we will reconcile.but Recently we have decided to go for diverse. but the process will take long time. if i want to apply for PR now, i should mention as seperated.

I tjink you hv to provide yr marital status in the PR application. Fill the details as it applies. If your family composition changes you need to inform cic anyways. If you are already divorced you would indicate so.

I thought legally separated and divorce are different?

Thats what i heard. Both are different.

Yeah, so that means the supporting documents for legally separated and divorced would be different. I believe as long as you can show documentations that you haven't been living together, it should be fine. Anyone here with experience that can enlighten us?
