Can Permanent residents accumulate residency days outside Canada ?

Dear all,

I have a friend who needs clarifications.

He and his wife are PR and they have three children, the two children are PR and one who was born in Canada is Citizen by birth. If they are all outside Canada for extended periods of time, Can they accumulate residency days if the Child who is Canadian citizen by birth lives with them outside Canada ?

The PR children can accumulate days when with a Canadian citizen parent. Not the other way around.
