Hello everyone, I’ve contacted CIC via phone some time ago & asked if it was possible to begin the entire sponsorship application for my wife when she arrives to Canada as a visitor. (She is polish and has a visa exempt passport) In summary, the lady I spoke with said “yes, of course”. Normally this information would be enough for me to not further pursue this question, however the person whom I spoke with was surprisingly rude, impatient, and would interrupt me several times before I had any chance to get to ask my one question. With that in mid, I’m not so sure if I trust her information based on her professionalism, thus I’m here to ask if anyone has any experience or knows if it is possible to begin the whole sponsorship application process while the spouse has entered Canada as a visitor.

Thanks ;)

Yes. short and simple.

Another question closely related to OP's question: can there be any issues arising from the sponsored person (i.e. the wife) visiting Canada while the sponsorship application is being processed? I was also thinking of having my wife come over temporarily on a visitor visa if the processing time takes longer than we anticipate.

The only issue would be that it is more difficult to be approved for a visitor visa when the applicant is married to the sponsor, since they would deem the sponsor to be the applicant's strongest familial tie. However, it is certainty not as "impossible" as some people make it appear to be, as if you look at my example, my wife's from a difficult country to be approved for a TRV, she was also married to me at the time of applying, but yet she was able to get a multiple entry visitor visa for life of her passport. At the airport, she was also allowed to stay the maximum 6 months. Most of it depends on the strength of your application, however, part of it is luck as well, it depends on the officer reviewing your application.

It's not an issue if the Sponsor mails the application while the Sponsor is visiting the Principal Applicant in the latter's home country right? Lol
