Hi,

I was just wondering, has anyone brought their wife/husband to Canada and she/he started studying there?

I mean, say if I get a student visa and my wife comes with me to Canada on a dependent visa, is it illegal for her to study at a university? Does she need a student visa to do that? Even if her duration of study is less than mine?

Thanks for your valuable feedback!

1. Yes, she would require a study permit if the course is greater than 6 months.

Exceptions

In some cases, you do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada.

If you wish to study in a short-term course or program
You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
