Can my husband apply for my residency while I am on a visitor visa?

Hi:
This is my case.
My husband and I are Mexicans. 9 months ago my husband got a job in Canada. He is in Canada with a working visa.
I came to Canada in February 2009, and they gave me a 6 months visitor visa to stay with my husband.
Now, my husband is applying for residency and he wants to sponsor me too. My question is, can we do that while I am on a visitor visa without me having to go back to Mexico?
Please help me!

Yes, apply for your visit visa extension and/or open spouse work permit at the same time you apply for PR. Then your visitor status will not expire while you wait for PR. As a spouse of a temporary worker, if he is skilled, you could get an open work permit too.
