Hi

So my friend's work permit expires next month and if she works another 1.5 months, her job time goes from 2 to 3 years giving her extra points under express entry.

Someone suggested sending a paper application on the last day for work permit extension to go on implied status and complete the 3 years job. Is this possible?

If she doesn't qualify for an extension - then this probably won't work.

CIC is now rejecting (rather than refusing) applications when people don't qualify but apply all the same. When an application is rejected, there's no implied status and any work completed after the expiry of the work permit cannot be counted as work experience.

Last link says

You should apply at least 30 days before your current status expires if you want to extend your stay as a worker in Canada.

Is this necessary or she can apply a week before expiry?

Oh no! Is there any official info on this?

If the extension is rejected (incomplete), the applicant is considered in status until the temporary resident document expires.

See the link above.

It's not surprising CIC put in this new rule. Too many people applying to extend when they didn't qualify...

so anyway she can make it 3 years? its just 1.5 months lol.

and students get a work permit of 3 years so its impossible for any student to get 3 years experience!

i hope mccallum gets some good rules this fall!

Not impossible, but it usually helps to begin looking into this with more than one month left on the work permit.

Her employer could apply for an LMIA. She could look into her province's provincial nominee program. She could see if there are any IEC programs for which she is eligible...
