Hi guys, my boyfriend and I have a question. Hopefully we can get an answer from you.
My boyfriend and I plan to get marry on December and he wants to sponsor me to get my PR. This is the case: My boyfriend used to have a company years ago, the manager at that time didn't do the company's taxes and now my boyfriend owns $20,000 . He plans to make an arrangement payment. Do you think he can still sponsor me with this tax problem?
I would appreciate if you reply. Thank you

Tax evasion is a crime, but I would think that unless he was prosecuted and convicted of tax evasion then it should not be a problem?

Shouldn't be a problem, he just has to submit latest tax returns - he has to be caught up with his returns in order to be able to sponsor you.

Does my boyfriend has to pay out all the money he owns to CRA and then sponsor me? Sorry for the question but we are very confused. Thank you so much for helping us.

I don't think unpaid taxes have any effect on sponsorship eligibility, it is not listed in the eligibility to sponsor. I only think that the application would be looked at with more scrutiny, especially because the sponsor needs to submit their NOA or Option C, which will show amounts awed. If the sponsor has payment arrangements, and is able to pay duly, by the time you get married, they would have records showing commitment to pay the amounts awed, i am not sure, but I assume it would help, unless it appears that him paying the taxes created a problem when it comes to supporting you as the sponsored person. I would suggest you read the complete guide, go through the eligibility to sponsor.
