Hi,
I am sponsoring my husband under the family class for permanent residency. We would like to do submit an upfront medical as recommended on the Immigration website, however, the panel doctors listed on the website are located far from where he is and are difficult to see for the next little while. But he is planning to come to Canada to visit with his Spanish passport, so I am wondering whether the medical exam can be done in Canada (Toronto)? Are there any doctors in Canada that Immigration will accept to conduct the medical exam?

Thank you in advance!!

I couldn't find a DMP (doctor) in my area in Toronto who was willing to give me a medical exam without a UCI (client ID) from CIC. So I had to wait for the sponsorship approval (which came with a UCI) before I could get a medical exam. This resulted in delay of processing my application by about two months. Outside Canada, on the hand, DMPs are willing to give medical exams to applicants who not have UCIs yet.

If you can find a DMP who's willing to give your husband a medical exam, get it around the time you submit your application. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

I should have mentioned that I am using the sponsorship form for those OUTSIDE of Canada. So I guess firstly I would need to know whether medical exams done within Canada can be used for applications for those outside Canada.

Secondly, I read on another Forum that Dr Vincente Pinalla's office located on 474 College Street, Toronto did not ask for the bar code or client ID. So I was hoping to try them.

Thanks again!

My application is also outland, but I was in Canada on a visitor visa when I submitted my application. Yes, I believe med exams done by any DMP from any location is valid.

Hey

I recently submitted my application. I am a UK citizen and sent an Outland application from within Canada as I am currently here visiting my wife. I also had a medical done within Canada without any issues just before I sent off the application. They shouldn't require a UCI number as such as I was able to do my medical without this so you should be fine.

Yup, same for me. I applied outland and did my medical, and my daughter's medical while visiting Canada. It does have to be a Dr. on the CIC list though.

Indeed!
I applied outland and I had my medical exam done in Edmonton while I was visiting my husband last summer.

There is a lot of confusion, it seems, with some doctors' offices and the upfront medical. Some try to tell you that you MUST have the form from CIC to do the medical exam (not true, there's a separate form the panel physicians should be able to provide for an upfront medical before you submit your application or get anything back from CIC). If the office you call says they can't do a medical without the form from CIC or your UCI, call other panel physicians, but it's simply not true and they are confused.

Yes there is a lot of confusion out there. When I went to get mine done, I was told they are introducing a new electronic system. As a result I was given the old version of the form (upfront medical exam) as well as a print out (new form) which includes a photo and a different number.
