Hi,

I am a US citizen living in Canada with my husband who is a Canadian Citizen. I am currently on a three-year student visa permit. We are planning to send out our application for permanent residency for outland. However, I was wondering if I can work at school as a teacher assistant or research assistant while my PR application is in process?

One more question. Is it really faster to apply outland? For example, for Los angeles office, it takes about 26 months plus about 2 months for sponsor evaluation which adds up to 28 months which is still a very long time!

Thank you

us outland applications do NOT get processed in LA. They get sent to Ottawa, and ONLY tranferred to LA if there is a concern with the application and an interview is required. Current US applicants are getting approved in 3-6 months. So considering inland processing has been stuck on July 2013 applications for about 5 months, yes - outland as a us applicant is considerably faster. let me be the first to yell...DO NOT APPLY INLAND!

As for if you can work, that would depend on what the requirements are of your study visa. if that visa is current, and it gives you the ability to work, then yes you can legally work. if it does not specifiy approval to work, then my guess is no. Applying Outland PR does not give an applicant the ability to work.
