Hello all,

I left my PhD program due to compelling health situation (hospitalization and surgery), and returned to my country in August 2022.
Can I still use my study permit which has validity until 2024 to come back to Canada again?

Does it also affect my future immigration to Canada? Please advise.

Regards
Naresh

If you dropped out the school must notify IRCC to cancel your study permit. So no, your study permit most likely has been cancelled. A study permit is not a TRV. Do you have a valid TRV? Why do you need to return to Canada?

Thanks. Yes, the IRCC has been notified by my school last year. Yes, I have a valid TRV until December 2024.

I'm planning to apply for other doctoral programs, just in case I get an admission, I would need a study permit, right?

You need to reapply for a new study permit. Your original study permit would have been canceled by IRCC once you dropped out of school.
