Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on my situation — it’s a bit complicated, and I’d really appreciate any advice or insights.

I applied for Express Entry (CEC) earlier this year, but my PR application was rejected about a month before my work permit expired (on September 15, 2025). I then received a new ITA on October 1st and submitted my new PR application today.

Right now, I am out of status, and my immigration consultant will be submitting my restoration of status and Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) applications soon.

Since I have a lot of free time now, I’d really like to travel to India for a few months to be with my family. My main concern is whether it’s okay to leave Canada while out of status and while my PR and restoration/BOWP applications are in process.

Can anyone please clarify:

1. If I travel to India now, will my restoration or BOWP applications be canceled?

2. Will leaving Canada affect my PR application in any way?

3. If I leave, will I be able to return to Canada before my PR or work permit is approved?

4. What would be the safest approach in my case?

I’ve heard that leaving while out of status might cause issues with restoration or BOWP, but I’m not completely sure how it impacts my PR file.

Any advice or personal experience would mean a lot. Thank you so much in advance!

1. Restoration of status is only needed if staying in Canada. You can apply for BOWP.
2. No
3. You can return if you have valid TRV.
4. Don't leave if you don't have TRV.
