My (Canadian) Wife (Turkey) who has a visitor visa until fall 2017 and a student permit/visa was enrolled at George Brown College (Toronto) during the fall semester in 2016.

She dropped the full-time program and is planning to take two night-school courses in winter (2017) at Ryerson University, and then enroll there full-time in fall (2017).

We got married in October 2016 and waiting for the marriage certificate to start sponsorship process, and need to make sure she has a legal status when we apply.

Since she will be in night school in two weeks,

is she still a student?

Does her current study permit cover this?

Is she just a visitor since she has a visitor visa?

Does she need to amend her current permit? notify CIC?

SUMMARY: WIFE WILL BE GOING FROM FULL-TIME TO JUST TAKING TWO COURSES (NOT ENROLLED IN DEGREE PROGRAM). SHE HAS A VISITOR VISA UNTIL 2017 AND STUDY PERMIT/VISA FOR 3 YEARS. WE PLAN TO APPLY FOR SPONSORSHIP WHEN WE GET OUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE BUT SHE NEEDS TO HAVE LEGAL STATUS.

Her study permit should still be valid once she switches to part time studies. She will need to notify CIC that she has changed schools.

If she was working off campus, she will have to stop. She needs to be a full time student in order to work off campus.

She stopped working her last week of classes.

She will be taking two courses, but not enrolled part-time or full-time.

We will call to notify them of the change. Thanks a lot.
