My Canadian wife and I submitted an application for spousal sponsorship (outside Canada stream) and are currently waiting for the second stage approval. I am currently working in Canada on an IEC work permit that expires in April. If my Spousal PR application is not returned before then am I able to submit a CEC application for the soul purpose of bridging my current IEC open work permit? And if I do so, will it void my spousal PR application which is currently pending second stage approval.

Any advise is much appreciated,

Thank you.

Yes, you can apply to as many different streams as you like.

When would you be applying for CEC? You'd need to get notice that you've gotten through the first stage (typically called AOR) before you can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit. Would it not just be easier to apply for a second IEC work permit? (If that's availabel to citizens of your home country, obvs).

That is good to know, thanks. I am already on my 2nd IEC, so not able to do a third one.

How long would it take to get the approval for a bridging work permit once I have submitted an application for CEC?

It typically takes between 6 & 8 weeks to get to the AOR stage of the CEC application and then anyway between 10-20 days to get the BOWP after applying for that(if applying online).

Of course, as I'm sure you're aware from your family class application, this can change depending on the time of year and the number of applications. It took me about a month to receive my BOWP, which was a year ago.
