Hello everyone,

My fiancee and I are planning to get married. We have plans on moving to Canada. My fiancee is a Canadian citizen but we have been living together in Europe for years.

The question that I want to ask is: could we move as a married couple to Canada first, and as I will be there with a visitors visa, could we then apply for spouse sponsorship? We don't want to be separated nor prolong our stay in Europe.

yes you can stay together inside Canada during whole processing but when you enter into canada as a tourist, you need to prove that you are just travelling not moving to Canada. OR you can send your application from outside Canada and show them proofs of spousal sponsorship application at the port of entry. if they found that you have dual intention, they will deny your entry into canada.

Welcome!

There are many on here with wonderful and indepth advice and information.

My hubby is Canadian. I'm US. I came here as a "visitor" then we got married 2 weeks later. Our application will be sent in 2 days and I'm "waiting it out", because like you, I didn't want to leave him once we were married.

Here's how you do that.

I'm assuming you're getting married in Europe?

Marrying a Canadian does not give you legal status to be in/stay in Canada. From your post, I think you know that. So, entering as a visitor, they want to know you're LEAVING. So, have a return flight ticket back to Europe (purchase cancellation insurance), this will help. I don't know about going through customs together either. Others may have more info for you here. I came alone and unmarried, so I don't have the experience. ::)

6 months is the longest you can get a visitor visa for, from what I know. Asking for 6 months visa may get you an interview because they want to know WHY you want to stay that long, where will you be, with whom, and how you're affording it. (I got all these questions when I entered). If you mention your husband when you enter Canada, they will want info on him as well.

You can request a visa extension 1 month before it runs out. I'm planning on asking for a years extension in October. This will cover all the processing of our spousal sponsorship and my PR app.

Get yourself famililar with the different forums here. There's an Outland thread/Inland thread and all kinds of topics. Prepare to READ A LOT. LOL

Get yourself familiar with the CIC website too. This is where you'll find all your applications and instructions, but the people here are so willing and helpful to answer questions and direct you to forums they think may help you.

Take lots of pics of EVERYTHING you do together, you'll need them as proof your relationship is real and continuing.

The people on here volunteer their time, so it may take a day before you get an answer to a question. Be patient. :)

There's MUCH more info I could give, but this is a quick "HELLO! WELCOME! You're HEARD! We CARE!" email back! ;D
(plus, I'm about to send our apps off and I can't sleep at almost 4 am! LOL)

You will be helped. Try to breathe, relax and READ!! :P

When you enter Canada with your husband, ask for a visitor record they are given in different amounts of time pretty much whatever the IO @ POE feels like giving you (I was given 8 months)... have your marriage certificate, receipt showing PR fees are paid. (who's gonna waste $1040 bucks) Do not say your moving, you are only visiting until your PR comes thru, your husband can bring his belongings but you can only bring clothes and things you would need for a visit. Also invest in a refundable return ticket people will say it isn't necessary and it really isn't but it proves your intention to leave, this is the main reason people are turned away, they don't prove to the IO their intention is to leave. you can always refund the ticket after applying for and receiving your extension. GL!
