Can I stay in Canada after study permit is renewed?

Hello all,

I'm from Colombia, and I plan to enroll in an 8 month graduate certificate program from Humber College, starting Sep. 2015, with expected graduation May 2016. Then, I want to enroll in another 8 month graduate certificate program from Centennial College, starting Sep. 2016, with expected graduation May 2017. My questions are:

1. Do I have to get a new study permit for the second certificate or Can I renew the first one?
2. If I'm able to renew the first study permit, Can I stay in Canada from May 2016 until Sep. 2016 while my study permit is renewed? Same question goes if I have to get a new study permit, Can I stay in Canada from May 2016 until Sep. 2016 while I get the new study permit?
3. From May 2016 until Sep. 2016, Would I be able to work, study, or just wait until the next certificate starts?

Hi,
To take another program you just have to extend your study permit, this must be done before the initial one expires.. You can stay in Canada and work full time during the summer because that is usually a holiday period for most programs .. Just make sure you apply for a study permit extension before it expires.. You would need a new offer letter and you also need to show proof of funds... You can get more information about study permit extension from CIC website..

1. You will have to renew the study permit.
2. You can stay. You will have implied status during processing time.
3. You can work/study under implied status. Except if you leaves Canada while on implied status & return back, you won't be able to study/work until the new study permit issued.
