Can I sponsor my Parents In Law

Hi,

Can I sponsor my parent in-law for the recently re-opened Parents immigration?
My wife was sponsored by me last year to become a PR, so herself is not an eligible sponsor...

No - you cannot sponsor your parents-in-law.

Am I right in understanding that your wife isn't a PR yet? If she is in fact a PR, there's nothing stopping her from sponsoring your parents provided she meets all of the requirements (you will have to be a co-sponsor since she won't meet LICO on her own).

My wife is a PR now, but there is one item in the sponsor eligibility assessment:
"In the five years preceding your application, did you become a PR after being sponsored as a spouse?"
and if the answer is yes, "you are not eligible to be a sponsor"

My wife was sponsored by me to become a PR last year...So, she is not a eligible sponsor now...

That rule only applies to sponsoring another spouse - not parents.

It means that within 5 years of being sponsored by you, your wife is not allowed to sponsor another spouse if things don't work out between the two of you. This rule was put in to prevent marriage fraud.

But again - it doesn't apply to parents.
