Can I register a company and send myself a job offer (LMIA)?

Hi all,

I'm on a study permit and I have sufficient funds to start/register a small business (maybe very small). Is it possible that I send myself a job offer and then apply for the express entry (considering the different rules of LMIA)?

Thanks

Short answer is no. IRCC used to have something called the owner / operator LMIA and work permit. However this program was stopped April 1, 2021. Even when this program was active a "very small" business wouldn't have been accepted.

You need to find an established employer in Canada who is willing to give you a NOC A, B or 0 job and get an approved LMIA.

if you wanted to get PR by starting your own company and all that, better look up "Start-up Visa Program"

1) Yes, you can register a company and get yourself a work permit under the IMP C11 LMIA exemption code Program. You have to prove that your new business brings significant benefit to the Canadian Economy.

2) Alternatively, Many provinces have a International Graduate Entrepreneur Nominee Program. You need to be at least 33.3% ownership and can apply for nomination after 1-year of business management experience. I would say go with this route. Why not? If you have the funds and aptitude to establish a business in Canada.

Just get a job in Canada or go back and work for 1 year then apply for Federal Skilled Worker.
