I am a US citizen married to a canadian citizen. 3 years ago I unintentionally overstayed in Canada for four months. Back then I thought I could stay in canada for up to 6 months each visit not each year so I stayed for 4 months, left for a month then stayed for 6 months. During the 4th or 5th month of my 6 month stay there was an emergency so we had to cross the border by car, after 3 days we returned but had troubles with border security and was sent for secondary inspection. They informed me that I am overstaying and I explained to them that it was an honest mistake and that I was misinformed. I was allowed to return to canada that day becauae I provided proof of my return to US within a month or two from that day? (Plane ticket)

That was 3 years ago. Now I returned to Canada on June, upon entry I was asked by the cbsa officer if I have ever overstayed in Canada and I explained to him what happened a few years ago. I also informed him that we do not plan on living here as I am petitioning my husband to US. My stay was only supposed to be 3 months and 9 days but my husband and I are thinking of extending my stay until December because he will be flying to US for the holidays so we can just go at the same time. Now if I return on the same date I will be overstaying for 8-13 days since I am only allowed to stay for exactly 6months.

Do I need to apply for an extension for that amount of days? If I do is it difficult to extend?

Came here June 7, planning on extending until around December 15-20 is that overstaying 8-13days or still considered as 6months?

Perhaps the CBSA officer didn't give you a new 6 months when you reentered, that is up to their discretion.

Apply for an extension, hopefully it will be granted because it's just a few days.
