Can I leave Canada while I'm waiting for my PGWP?

I applied my PGWP on May 2nd. Unluckily, I am one of those delayed applications. I haven't heard anything from CIC since I submitted the 100 dollar fee they requested on August 22nd. I want to go back home during Christmas holiday. But I'm afraid of being refused to re-enter into Canada since I don't have my work permit and my study permit no longer works as I have already graduated 90 days. I know I have implied status, but will I lose it after I leave? Does anybody try before?
