It’s been 16 months since I applied for Canadian inland spousal sponsorship and have my work permit. I still am waiting on a decision for PR after submitting some requested documents 3 weeks ago. My father passed away suddenly of a heart attack in my home country yesterday and I want to go home to be with my mother and family for the funeral. Can I leave Canada? Is there anyone to contact to speed up a decision on my application? If anyone has been in this situation or has any advice or guidance on what to do it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately IRCC will not speed up the processing or decision on your application.

You can certainly leave however the advice would be to keep your trip relatively short (i.e. a few weeks) to avoid impacting your inland application.

Make sure you have a valid TRV or eTA so that you can return to Canada.
