I am born in Canada, and I am currently in processing stage. Ive sent the forms (My wife and mines) 2 weeks ago. My wife is in Vietnam and I am in the process of sponsoring her over. I wish to visit her because she has just given birth to our baby boy and I very much want to see my family. I have not sent in the sponsorship forms for the baby yet. In the forms I have notified them that my wife was pregnant when I gave them the forms package. My wife is in the process of making a citizenship for our son. We will live in Canada when my wife and son are sponsored over.

So my questions are:

1) Can I leave the country to visit my wife and son? (If I can, how long? Can I leave now or do I have to wait for a reply?)
2) If I can leave can the mail that I get from CIC be mailed by my family in Canada to me in Vietnam where my wife and son is?
3) Is there any other forms needed after you submit the total package to them?
4) Can I send the sponsorship forms for my son from Vietnam?
5) Can I visit Vietnam and stay there until the processing stage is done and come with my wife and son to canada together? I want to be with them through that stage and do not want them to get lost.
6) What are the steps needed to sponsor my newborn son over to Canada, and will he be approved same time as my wife and be able to come together?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi vietcutieboy... You can travel to go visit your wife at anytime during the processing of the application... You will only be able to stay the normal time allowed in that country so when they stamp your passport upon arrival it will tell you the lenght of the stay... (perhaps maybe 3 mths) I am not sure if your mail could be forwarded to vietnam but I would call the call center and ask that question if you are allowed to do that you may have to provide different info showing ties to Canada showing them that you guys will come to reside here... maybe ask them the question and they would provide with additional info... You can be requested additional information if in example did not submit original birth certificate for your wife, original marriage certificate, medical examination papers .... they will send this request to you or your wife.. if its the medical examination you will receive that request to submit this info but the rest will have to be your wife that submits with her b******* number (immigration file number) that they will provide to her... she may also be requested to provide more evidence or things like that... for the sponsorship of your son.. I am unsure how that works but make sure you do it right away because you don't want them to think you lied to them... I would call tomorrow as tomorrow is the less busy day for the call center in mississauga and I would ask them the questions just to be on the safe side.... I hope this helped in any way....

1. Yes, but if requested by CIC, you must show them your proof of settlement plans in Canada when/if the PR visa is issued to your wife. Since you are a Canadian citizen, as long as you want or are allowed by that country.
2. The only mail you will receive as the sponsor is notice of your sponsorship application decision UNLESS you gave your Canadian address as the mailing address for your wife's application for PR. If you want to give them a new address, do it after you receive sponsorship approval and your wife receives the Acknowledgement of Receipt from the visa office processing the file. That way you will have the file number.
3. No more forms but they may ask for more information regarding proof of relationship. You need to advise them of the birth of your son as soon as your wife receives the file number. She will have to update her Application for PR and Additional Family Information forms.
4. Since you were born in Canada, your son inherits your Canadian citizenship. Register his birth and apply for his citizenship certificate at the Canadian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/vietnam/consular_services_consulaires/index.aspx?lang=eng

Thanks lonely_wife for your fast reply, I am now waiting for my sons birth certificate to be proccessed from vietnam, and then my wife send it to me so I can send it to CIC. As for my wife's forms and documents like her being sponsored forms, citz card, marriage docs, medical, police reports and more I have submitted on my end to the Missisauga office. I hope that will do. Because I really much want to go now to visit my wife and son. I cannot wait a few months and miss out on my son's first few moments of his life.

Thanks rjessome for you info, I was wondering for my sons end. I have already signed the papers to allow my wife to make a citizenship for my son in Vietnam. Is that right? Or do I need to apply for him to be a canadian citizen first. Or can he be a Vietnam citizen, then make him a canadian citizen? Sorry if these questions may sound stupid. I am really hoping all goes well and I dont mess anthing up.

You can leave now if you choose but I would wait until you receive the letter from CIC... but if you live with someone who has access to your mail you can go and get them to either open your mail or even take the mail and place it in another enveloppe to ship it to you in Vietnam... You can also view your status online on ecas... but you cannot find out if you were approved on ecas... which is when you view you application status online through cic.gc.ca

I hope this helps...

Canada allows dual citizenship. I don't know about Vietnam.

You can leave whenever you want. But since sponsorship approval only takes 4 to 6 weeks, you might want to wait until you receive that.

i didn't read the details or fine print (it didn't talk about those who would seek future citizenship with a second nation here), but it looks like your son can very likley obtain dual citizenship with both vietnam and Canada

congrats and best of luck

Thank you for your fast replies. I was wondering should I expect anything else other then the approval letter and file number from CIC within this time and the time that I am in Vietnam? I am sure that I gave all the required info needed on my end and my wife's end because I followed the checklist.
