Hi everyone,

I am an international student, attending a university in Montreal. I recently wanted to start a business there but I am not quite sure I can.
I would like to launch an iphone app that would facilitate relationships between customers and some companies (both in Montreal). I have been doing some research but I am not quite sure if I can start without a work permit? As I am only studying in Montreal, if it was successful the company would probably have its head office back in my home country.

Thank you for your help!

Re: Can I launch an app with a study permit?

You typically can't start a business on your own without a Canadian citizen or permanent resident partner. I would recommend you speak with a small business lawyer before you start anything in Canada to ensure you don't end up violating the terms of your study permit.

Thank you for your answer!
The business is going to be started in my home country but I would like to expand some of its operations in Montreal as I live there. Would it be possible in this situation?
I was planning on contacting a business lawyer but I wanted a bit more of information before doing so.

Thanks!
