Can I go border for extend workpermit while my Visa expired?

Hi There,

Im working in Vancouver and now I just get all document to extend work permit and I have plan to go border at Peace Arch crossing in this weekend . so me current work permit is not expire yet still have more 3 weeks left but my Visa is already expired 10 day ago.
so my question is can I go border for flag-poling to come back Canada for do the workpermit thing ?
