Hello,

As the title of the thread states, I am interested in applying for a work permit in the near future. Allow me to expand on my situation first though to give a more clear context of what I mean by 'accompany'. I came to Quebec in December of 2018 with my mother. She had an international study permit to study in a college and I had permission to finish my high school studies. Fast forward up until now and I have finished my high school studies and my mother now has a post-graduate work permit. Here is where the question lies; I am currently not able to work since I don't have a work permit, and I cannot apply for a college at the moment since my preferred program starts during the next fall semester (September 2021), which leaves me with an entire year of not being allowed to do much.

Now, if I could have a work permit, at least I would be able to gather enough money to pay my own tuition and even my own things. I am 18 years old, so working is also a valuable experience that most teenagers in here have. I have read in the IRCC webpage that I might be eligible, but I am not sure. Could anyone confirm this or know who I can contact to ask for information?

What country are you from? There are some young worker programs. If you don’t qualify for those programs you wI’ll have to find an employer willing to hire you. The employer will need to get an Approved LMIA showing noCanadian can do the job. Then you’ll need to apply for a closed work permit to work for only that employer. Most employers are not willing to do this and it would likely take over 6 months for the whole process. You may want to consider going home to your home country to work.

You are not eligible to apply for a work permit based on your mother's status in Canada. Only her spouse would qualify for an open work permit based on her status in Canada. You do not.
