Can I come on English classes first and then enrol on an uni?

Enlighten a newbie, please! I am 42 y.o. I have more chances to get a visa if I come to English school first.
My question:

• If I take 2-3 months English classes in English school and while studying can I apply for some university program in an university or college? I mean not leaving Canada, pay a tuition and start my studies in that uni? Or in any case I must leave and apply for university from my home country and get a new visa?

Unlikely that you would get a student visa approval to study English in Canada as you can study English anywhere, probably even your home country.
