can i change my status from worker to tourist?

I am currently on a worker's permit. I want to apply for a tourist visa when my worker's permit ends because i have no plans of renewing my contract further but i do want to spend a few months visiting family and exploring Canada before i head back home.

Just wondering if this is possible and any input will be appreciated.
